Frequently Asked Questions
-
The Sound Teacher is based in south east London (Bromley BR2). Listening screenings and assessments are usually carried out via home visit, while therapy programmes are completed in your own home.
Services are available nationwide and internationally, with most screening and therapy delivered remotely.

Maestro headphones are specialised devices incorporating Tomatis® Method technology. Carefully filtered music is delivered through a headset that transmits sound via both air and bone conduction, gently stimulating the listening system. The equipment is comfortable, non-invasive and designed for safe, controlled auditory support.
Maestro headphones are not available for independent purchase. They are provided as part of a structured Tomatis® programme when beginning sound therapy with The Sound Teacher.
-
Programmes begin with a detailed listening assessment and consultation. An individualised series of home-based listening sessions is then designed using carefully filtered music and, where appropriate, vocal work delivered through specialised equipment.
Sessions are calm and non-invasive, with programmes structured in stages to allow the auditory system time to integrate changes.
-
For children aged 4+ and adults, a typical listening intensive is around one hour per day, divided into four music tracks.
Sessions can be completed in one sitting or split into shorter periods — for example, 15 minutes in the morning and the remainder later in the day — to fit comfortably around daily routines.
-
Yes. Programmes are individually tailored and can be adapted for children, adolescents, adults and older adults. Listening needs change across the lifespan, and support is adjusted accordingly.
A bone conduction option is available where headphones cannot be used — including for young babies, individuals with sensory sensitivities, or those using hearing devices such as cochlear implants.
-
Auditory stimulation can be beneficial for:
Children experiencing listening, attention or language difficulties
Young people struggling with concentration, fatigue or sound sensitivity
Adults who feel overwhelmed by noise or find speech hard to process
Individuals with reduced hearing who want greater access to music
Musicians seeking refined listening and auditory balance
Anyone who senses that listening feels harder than it should
Support is always personalised and responsive to age, need and goals.
-
Auditory stimulation is non-invasive and carefully structured. Sound levels and progression are monitored closely to ensure comfort and appropriateness throughout.
-
Every person responds differently. Some notice immediate shifts in attention or ease with sound during the programme, while for others subtle changes become clearer over time as listening integrates more fully.
-
No. Auditory stimulation does not replace medical care or audiological management. It works alongside existing support to strengthen listening and sound processing.
