Palmar Reflex

The palmar reflex is the link between the hands and mouth.

Challenges when this reflex is not integrated:

  • Poor manual dexterity (this reflex prevents separate thumb/finger movements)

  • Weak/no pincer grip (affects pencil grip when writing)

  • Speech difficulties

  • Difficulty processing ideas onto paper

  • Palm of the hand may remain hypersensitive

  • Tactile (touch) sensitivity or craving touch

  • Mouth movements when trying to write or draw

(often involves ‘overflow’ such as sticking tongue out when concentrating)

Do this exercise to help integrate the palmar reflex.

TIP: Look for fingers twitching, or elbows twitch or bend in slightly.

    Description:

    1. Hold hand out with arm straight and palm open and flat.

    2. Brush along the life line crease, starting between the thumb and finger, and across the palm towards the wrist.

Frequency: 3 reps on each hand every day for 40 days

      Time: 1 minute

Note: remember to exercise both hands!
