Listening Test with The Sound Teacher

A listening test evaluates how ears, body, and brain work together, identifying obstacles affecting learning, daily activities, and emotional regulation.

The listening test differs from standard hearing exams and can be done at home without the need for silence. It begins with discussing listening difficulties, health, and lifestyle to clarify assessment goals.

The results usually validate the difficulties you have been experiencing in everyday life and provide clarity on next steps.

A sound processing assessment can help validate challenges faced in learning or everyday activities. Book your listening test today.

Ear Examination and Air Conduction Testing

An otoscope checks for ear issues like wax or infections that may cause difficulties. Air conduction testing uses specialist headphones to detect sounds across multiple frequencies, varying by age and ability.

Bone Conduction and Selectivity Tests

Bone conduction headphones transmit vibrations to the inner ear, assessing sound processing and detection location. Selectivity testing evaluates ability to detect pitch changes, useful for noisy environment challenges and sound sensitivity.

Maestro Headphones

The Sound Teacher utilises this single tool for the whole listening assessment: air conduction, bone conduction and laterality testing (see below).

Hypersensitivity and Laterality Assessments

Hypersensitivity testing measures comfort with increasing sound volumes. Laterality testing examines dominance of one ear in processing speech, which can affect speech fluency, voice control, reading, spelling, and memory.

Results and Follow-up

Results are shared with clients who are encouraged to ask questions. Next steps are customised, including possible 14-day Tomatis® Method listening intensives, guidance, or reassurance.
