310,000 steps in October

I’m doing 310,000 steps in October for the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS).

I am a Qualified Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People and hold professional membership of the NDCS. I am thrilled to be able to support this brilliant organisation to make an impact in the lives of d/Deaf and hard of hearing children and their families.

Please check back regularly on this page for updates during the month of October.

UPDATE 15/11/2022 - THANK YOU!

£200 raised for NDCS.

Your donations will help towards making a difference to the lives of deaf children and young people and their families.

UPDATE 27/10/2022 - Day 27 of 310,000 steps in October

Target of 310,000 achieved!

I knew that the Welsh hills and caffeine would help fuel the final 50,000 steps to reach my target.

For me it was the wild mountains and fresh coffee that helped me achieve my steps target. Whatever works for you, go out and do it. Experience it. Live it. Humans are complex and need well developed sensory input to navigate the physical, emotional, cognitive and mental challenges of life.

UPDATE 16/10/2022 - Day 16 of 310,000 steps in October

I managed 11,360 steps today…

…despite having clinic appointments to do the Tomatis® Listening Test.

This unique listening assessment tool from Tomatis® can help identify disruptions in sound processing. Sound processing challenges are extremely common and link to an individual’s coping strategies at all ages and stages of life.

UPDATE 07/10/2022 - Day 7 of 310,000 steps in October

22,463 steps done today, including a trip to Wembley Arena to see Snarky Puppy!

I have a musical background (percussion) so I love to go to live gigs when I am able. It is so important to get children and young people involved in the live music experience. Music can be an inclusive hobby for all, for life!

UPDATE 02/10/2022 - Day 2 of 310,000 steps in October

12,000 steps done today, starting with a 7am walk with the ducks!

I have been keeping a bird tally in class recently with some very young Deaf pupils. It is so important to get youngsters outside to listen to and mimic these unique sounds.
